When did we become so obsessed with how and when to eat, when and how much water to drink ?

It feels like everyday there’s an article contradicting something you just read the other day.
Something that was good for you is actually bad now and you should never eat it again!!
People chugging 3 gallons of water a day!! But are you thirsty?
We should eat 2..no 3..well actually 5 small meals per day is better than 3 or is it the other way around??
I like to keep it simple! I eat when I am hungry, drink when I am thirsty and sleep when I feel like it.
